Importance of Leadership Skills for Kids

January 29, 2026

A few days ago, I was taking a workshop on Leadership in young kids. The room was full of 7-10-year-old kids. I divided them into groups of four and gave them the task of building a futuristic structure using cardboard, markers, tape, etc. All the teams started, and soon the kids were brainstorming over the different ideas. Amy wanted to build a fort, Sarah wanted to build a dog shelter and Dev and Ayush wanted to build a space station.

Amy understood that their team cannot win this way, hence, she went to Sarah and told her to draw the dog shelter structure on a cardboard for better visualization. Then she went to the boys and asked them if they could build a dog shelter in a space station; the boys loved the idea!

Amy assigned the taping task to Dev, and all four of them started building basis Sarah's drawing. This way, they completed their task on time, while other groups were still had discussion and were just starting. I asked them about this unique idea, and the team said that Amy pulled the team together and they were able to make something amazing. That is the mix of empathy and understanding others.

In today's world, these are the leadership skills for kids that parents sought for in their kids. It is not being the loudest person in the room, but the ability to understand and make sure that everyone works towards the same goal!

At HOSS (House of Soft Skills), we have understood the importance of leadership skills that must be inculcated in the kids. These skills make them confident and ready to navigate their real-life problems with ease.
